EEL 570 - An Exploration of Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Word Study in PreK-6 Classrooms


This course is designed for educators who teach students in elementary grades. Using a cognitive apprenticeship approach, participants will become familiar with the theory and practice of phonological awareness and phonics instruction that includes the foundational skills of phonemic awareness, the alphabetic principle, phonics and word study. Explicit instruction; observation of student learning; formative assessment of student competencies; workshop structures; and instructional resources will be included as areas of study.
