MUH 550 - Music Period Course An in-depth study of one of four style periods in western classical music. Offered by section number on a four-year rotating basis: Section 001 - Music of the Baroque Period: A study of music in the 17th and first-half of the 18th centuries from Monteverdi and Schutz to Bach and Handel; 002 - Music of the Classical Period: The changing style in form and content as evolved by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven viewed in historical content; 003 - Music of the Romantic Period: Study of musical expression during the 19th century with emphasis on the intellectual foundations of the romantic movement. Detailed analysis of representative works from Beethoven through Debussy; 004 - Music of the Twentieth Century: Trends in contemporary music and their relationship to the cultural and political life of our time. May be repeated for credit.
Prerequisites & Notes MUH 202 or permission.
