BIO 515 - Thermal Ecology: Animals and Climate Change

This seminar will focus on providing an understanding of the thermal physiology and energetics of animals. Students will become familiar with animal physiology, and the relationships between environmental temperatures, performance, and fitness. The course will include a tutorial on compiling and interpreting long-term temperature datasets including use of UMaine’s Climate Reanalyzer. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with the literature and techniques used for predicting the vulnerability of vertebrates to global change using mechanistic physiological models.
