SWK 580 - Adult and Child Psychopathology


This course examines intra-psychic,constitutional, relational, and biomedical strengths, and vulnerabilities as they manifest themselves throughout the lifespan. Students will be introduces to several theoretical perspectives useful for understanding human behavior or psychopathology, and to the impact of oppression, discrimination, and trauma especially as they intersect with differences in race, culture, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. Students will become familiar with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders classification system and its use and misuse of psychiatric labeling system.
