SMS 558 - History of Uses and Abuses of the Coastal Zone Examination of human uses of the shore and near-shore in various parts of the world from prehistory to the present, including habitation, fishing, farming, industry, shipping and waste disposal. Emphasis on how societies have balanced divergent requirements of the coastal zone, long and short-term effects and results of various attempts to reconstruct and preserve the coastal zone.
